Full Service Custom Conversions
Design and Planning
Full builds need a plan, minor upgrades need one too. We work closely to learn what you need from your project and then design and plan to meet that. Our conversions start with talking through what you want to do, where you want to go, when and how long you plan on traveling. This gets combined with insight from many designs, builds and happy outcomes to develop a comprehensive plan. You receive pricing and timeline info through the whole process.
Build Preparation
Near the end of the design and planning phase you'll have a detailed understanding of what you are getting, how much it will cost you and when your project it scheduled to start and finish. You'll have a 3D rendering of the project showing the build in detail. At this point we take a deposit , lock in your build schedule and begin ensuring all materials necessary will be on hand by start date.
Build Process
We only do conversions on client owned vehicles, once the build is underway, the conversion takes 12-20 weeks on average as we carefully work through the detailed process. We provide progress updates and photos as requested and regularly check in during the conversion. The last few weeks of the build consist of thoroughly testing all aspects of your conversion in addition to the finishing touches.
Hand-off
Modern camper vans are complex. You get near total freedom AND the creature comforts. But it means being a master of your build. We spend as much time as necessary, often 2 or 3 days, to hand off your build. We go over the construction and features in detail. We talk about RV electrical systems- and water systems- we talk about winterizing- etc. And often we make last minute additions and modifications. You leave as an expert on your build, prepared with the understanding to be able to truly enjoy your travels, even if life goes a bit sideways.
Living with Maker Vans
We want happy clients. This means we want durable and comfortable vans to start. Durable, comfortable vans throughout the entire lifetime of the vehicle. Our clients will tell you, we provide support long after the van leaves our shop. We know our clients are using our products in remote places or dwelling in them full time. DIY Build Design Consultation
Most of us have never cut a big (permanent) hole in the side of a truck to install windows, or wired up a complex and potentially dangerous high amp electrical system.
These things demand close attention to detail, and it’s difficult to know which details matter and which are style points. Peace of mind comes from knowing you got it right the first time.
With Maker Vans we will methodically work with you through the entire design and planning process to make every effort to optimize your final product and real world experience.
Hourly rates starting at $75/hr.
DIY Build Coaching
Take your motivation and desire for van freedom and add the experience and insight from years as a general contractor, mechanic and van converter and you have a recipe for success.
Whether you need help in the design stage or the build stage it will be better knowing you have input from an experienced builder. Maker Vans' consultation services will be there for any unknown that arises. Coaching can take many forms including in house clinics, individualized how-to videos and last minute, on demand problem solving.
Based in the the PNW, but serving clients all over the North America remotely. Hourly rate starting at $75/hr.
CAD Rendering
It's so satisfying to begin with a mental image and have this drawn up in a digital space and see it come to life in front of you. We will use real world dimensions to ensure every inch is used wisely and everything fits where it needs to- using CAD rendering to get the design details dialed. Renderings vary in level of detail based on each clients needs.
Electrical System Design
Maybe you want to do all the cutting, crimping and heat shrinking yourself, but don't know what components will work together to handle your loads? We'll learn about your build and intended use- then design a detailed system that will keep up. We'll discuss the various approaches to providing the necessary electrical supply for your build. You'll know you approached your electrical system design with a long term, hassle free outlook
Platform Selection/Factory Order Consultation
Every quality conversion requires a quality chassis to build on. Used or new? Transit or Promaster? And what options do you need? OEM swivel seats? Oversized alternator? OEM windows? If you're stuck wondering what platform is right for you, let's talk. We'll discuss the many factors at place including budget, reliability, intended use, and many more while we narrow down on exactly what chassis will fit your vision for your build.
